Or Will The World Cup Make It To Zlatan Ibrahimovic?

Zlatan Ibrahimovic wants to return to the Swedish national team after pulling international duties in 2016.

The former Manchester United man is now lighting up in the MLS scoring absolute screamers (as usual).

However, he may see his World Cup dreams dissipate as a FIFA rule is getting in the way of his return to the Sweden team.

He didn’t participate in Sweden’s qualification but is has expressed a desire to return to the international game this year.

Is Zlatan Ibrahimovic Betting Too Hard?

The snag is Zlatan has a corporate deal with Bethard, a Maltese based betting firm.

In chapter four, rule 25 of FIFA’s code of ethics it seems that Ibra could be prevented from entering. This is because of a breach of regulations towards betting. Ouch.

It states “Persons bound by this code shall be forbidden from taking part in…betting…and similar…transactions connected with football matches.

“They are forbidden from having stakes, either actively or passively, in companies, concerns, organisations, etc. that promote, broker, arrange or conduct such events on transactions.”

Deal With The Zlatan

But in true Zlatan Ibrahimovic fashion he says: “if I want to go I’m there”.

The top dogs at the Swedish FA are hoping that a compromise can be reached. The General Secretary told a Swedish newspaper: “If a player advertises in different contexts, it is a completely different issue handled by the Swedish Football Association, that is, it has nothing to do with FIFA’s regulations and ethical code.

“There are two areas that are isolated from each other and handled separately.”

Well, there’s still time to come to an agreement about this and get one of the biggest personalities (and talents) in football back on the biggest stage of them all and give Eriksen a hand in getting them as far as possible…
