Australia Team News: Aussies confirmed to play high profile friendly vs Columbia in London
Australia will be playing against the striking quality of Columbian icons such as James Rodriguez, Ramadel Falcao and Juan Cuadrado in March.
This is all part of World Cup 2018 preparations. The FFA has confirmed the Australia boss will be selected just before the date. That makes this fixture his first run out against a tough Columbia team (Fifa Rank 13). Slaven Billic, Macelo Bielsa, Bert van Marwick and Graham Arnold have previously been linked with the job.
Australia vs Colombia is on Wednesday 28th March 20:00 GMT (06:00 AEST) at Craven Cottage.
Columbia finished fourth in the qualifiers and find themselves in group H with Poland Senegal and Japan. It’s a group they are expected to win.
““We are excited to have secured the match against Colombia, which offers us a good challenge against strong South American opposition leading into the FIFA World Cup,” said FFA chief executive David Gallop.”
“We believe that we have managed to put together a strong set of matches [Norway and Colombia] for our soon to be appointed head coach to cast his eye over the squad, and continue to prepare our players for Russia.”
“We’re thankful to the Colombian Football Federation for hosting us at Craven Cottage as we continue to build towards Russia.”
As well as Falcao, James and Cuadrado, the Columbia team features talent from quality teams. Arsenal’s Ospina in goal, Tottenham’s Sanchez and AC Milan’s Zapata as well as Sevilla’s Muriel up front too. This will be a solid test for the Socceroos.
